got the spacers for the rear axle on the digger done today... i can replace the thousands of assorted sized ones we mocked up with now....

and made a start on the chain tensioner...

thank god for friends with a lot of experience eh??..... today while working on the Lathe there was a huge flash from the motor and the power tripped in the workshop, my first thought was that the motor was fubared.... i reset the main trip and stood there thinking "oh bollox!!", i was however puzzled by the lack of burnt motor smell that generally accompanies that sorta thing, so i phoned the 'Lathe and general workshop tips information hotline', otherwise known as Toddy.... "yep if you have a lathe with the motor behind it that happens, you've got swarf in the motor, blow it out with an airline and it'll be fine but make a guard so it cant happen again" ... what a bloody oracle of knowledge you are mate... cheers Toddy

it worked and I've built a guard so it wont happen again, if you haven't already checked out Toddy's blog then you're mad, do so HERE

I've been looking for some dome slotted, countersunk bolts... not an easy one to find but today these arrived in the post from my old mate Pete (that's Pete with the Magnum)....... and of course finding nuts for 1/4" X 24 bolts are nigh on impossible so he very generously included a couple of taps that he had spare....

so it was time to make some shallow nuts to fit.......

I cannot explain the immense satisfaction i get from making and using something like this simple little nut...

and of course now the backlight is sitting pretty...

Mrs Rowan returned from LA last night and while she was there i arranged this to be dropped off with her.... after half an hour of polishing and a rewire its come up beautiful !!!!...... i'll throw it at the knuck this week

Vaughan came over today and cleaned up the milling table, lubricated everything and got it all spic'n'span... it all works and runs smooth as silk now!!

and i got the knuck clutch and throw out bearing all sorted....

tomorrow I'm gonna recheck the gearbox oil level, fine tune the clutch and then i think I'll go out for a little ride....... hell yeah !!!!

Vaughan and i have both been on the lookout for a Lathe, asking about, keeping an eye out etc. well a coupla weeks ago a Boxford came up for £850 but i said let's hang on, no hurry, one will come up at the right price
Well Vaughan saw an Uncle of ours who is in his late 70’s and asked in passing if he knew any old boys who might have a lathe sitting in his shed that we might be able to buy… he only said YES !!

So after a coupla weeks of phone calls etc this morning we drove nearly 3 hours to have a look at and hopefully buy this lathe off the old boy
Fuck i’m stoked with this deal !!
We bought his old Myford 10

And his Warco Milling Machine

And he said he would throw everything he had in with the price… which turned out to be quite a lot actually

He even threw in a little compressor and some steel and brass stock

I haven’t unpacked it all yet but the box i opened just now had verniers, dial gauges and 12 micrometers in it !!

I think we did quite well today....

This Magneto Extended Base arrived today from MAGNETOZOO and i gotta say this is one fine and dandy little piece of fabrication, the likes and quality of which is really hard to find nowadays... I'm stoked and cannot find the right words to to express my gratitude, or recommend their parts highly enough to you guys out there..

clutch adjuster is not sitting straight....

looks like its been helicoiled !!!....

also it has the tapper roller conversion fitted to the clutch rod on the kicker end, i presume !!!... but it came straight out on the clutch side, so did i pull that little circlip off, i didn't feel any restriction, when i gave it a gentle pull it just slide straight out.... well i hope it was me cos if not that bearing might have been riding around or off completely.... we'll soon find out when i pull the starter cover side off !!!

meanwhile i'm now waiting on parts and she will just have to sit there looking like she has thrown up for a few days till they arrive....

Vaughan came over today to get a bit more done on the digger.....
we threw an old eyebrow i had at the front end... i quite like it !!

finished off the caliper bracket, chain, axle spacers etc... just the chain tensioner and chain guard left to sort out and the driveline is all finished

the knuck clutch is proving to be a bit niggley.. i'm sure i've done something really daft like a coupla springs are sitting on the stud collars or something... so thats gotta come off again!!!...

2 1/8" Inlet manifold nuts spanner arrived from Alex at Grizzly's so i can now install the Polyetheretherketone(PEEK) gaskets

as soon as my feet have thawed out i'll be back in there to do a bit more....

happy though when i saw how nice a condition the clutch is in... big bearing and belt conversion too ....

almost like brand new, an Alto Red Eagle clutch........

and i have now decided i absolutely hate that f'kin rear light, i'm such a twat!! i should have just bitten the bullett and bought the early crocker limp dick one i really wanted, but i just couldn't justify the money, big mistake cos i think i'll have to go get one now anyway.......

after a bit of fanny'ing around with those insulated live wire posts in the headlight today... i finally have a functioning headlight....

oh and the front end wiring is sorted completely now so the horn is good too, just waiting on the old original horn cover to arrive so i don't have to keep looking at that horrible new piece of crap!!!

2011 in Review....

a busy year really...

i got the "Bloody Evo" on the road

and promptly said goodbye to Spain after 20 years and moved back to England....

i attended some really fantastic events warming the year up with the "1st Annual Stockers Tea Party"....

The "Hotrod Hayride".... was bloody marvelous....

and i'm not sure if the Linkerts can ever be topped cos that was monumental in my opinion and hats off to the organisers... you know who you are!!

Vaughan and i got started on building the Digger...

i got some more Ink, this time by the wonderful Madame butterfly!!!

and managed to nag Martin into selling me the Knuck i've lusted after for ages....

and finally found the right house and got started on my garage...

all in all its been a great year for me with a few things crossed off the bucket list.....

here is to 2012.. it's gonna be a great year if you let it.....

Fitted a new battery to the Knuck today and started replacing some of the wiring

the clutch needs tinkering with as its misbehaving a bit... as you can see from the trough its digging itself while in gear with the clutch depressed...

scored some lovely drip trays from a commercial kitchen suppliers

Much better.. i kept running over the last aluminium disposable ones

and a new book, "Terry the Tramp" arrived in the post

i like days like this... now tonight i'm going to get pisshed...

Spent today packing up the garage .... getting ready for the move, nearly done
